The Plate Metal Shearing Process

The shearing process involves a piece of sheet metal being separated by sheer force by 2 tools, one above and below the sheet. They produce straight-line cuts, commonly parallel to an existing edge, although angles cuts can be made also.

Shearing is primarily used to cut sheet stock into smaller sizes in preparation for other processes.

The metal shearing process can be done with various forms of materials and forms including, stainless steel, mild steel, galvanised steel, brass and titanium.
