Hot Rolled Flat Bar West Midlands
At Harris Steels, based in Halesowen, we supply high-quality hot rolled flat bars across the West Midlands. Also known as long products, re-rolled, or merchant bar, these low-carbon, cost-effective steel sections are widely used in construction, fabrication, engineering, and manufacturing projects across the region. With a maximum carbon content of 0.22% and a minimum yield of 275 N/mm², our hot rolled flat bars are easy to form, machine, and fabricate without specialist tools or heat treatments.
Surface Finish and Protection
We supply each hot rolled flat bar in its natural blue-grey finish in the as rolled (AR) state. Surface scale can be removed using pickling and oiling (P&O), shot blasting, or other abrasive methods. The scale also offers limited protection against mild corrosion, though condensation may cause some rust discolouration.
Production Process
Hot rolled flat bars across the West Midlands are made to strict specifications. Billets or blooms are heated to around 1200°C, then rolled through roughing, intermediate, and finishing stages to achieve the required dimensions. Controlled cooling at roughly 900°C ensures the steel’s mechanical properties and suitability for various applications.
