Other names for hot-rolled equal angles are angle iron and RSA (Rolled Steel Angle). They are a versatile, economical, low-carbon material that may be used in a wide range of applications. Angles are formed with a fillet radius or root radius to a 90° angle to reduce the concentration of stress at the corner. For less important applications, smaller square root angles with exceedingly small root radii are also available.
Operations involving the product being twisted are not acceptable for this area. In load-bearing applications, angles are widely used, either in finished form or when bolted or welded (back to back) to create a tee shape. The blue/gray surface scale on the bar’s exterior can be removed by pickling and oiling (P&O), but shot blasting is more usually used in Walsall when a surface finish, including painting, is required.
S275 and S355 standards (available in wider angles) may be manufactured and machined near Walsall without the use of high performance tools. Both criteria have a similar chemical structure, and they occasionally cross over. A minimum tensile yield strength of 355 N/mm2 must be attained for S355 material to comply with the necessary standard; however, the minimum yield value decreases as the material thickness rises.
The same rolling method used to create equal angles for lengthy hot rolled items. However, unlike flats, squares, rounds, etc., most angles are frequently rolled in both 6 and 12 metre lengths due to their intended use. Customised lengths are also available upon request. Production tolerances for larger sections range from 0.4 mm to millimetres.
