- BS 970:1991 230M07 (now redundant)
230M07 still commonly referred to as EN1A is a low carbon, free cutting steel, used widely in machined parts to reduce tooling costs and in applications where a high quality surface finish is required without additional processing. The material is not recommended for any load bearing applications and is generally not recommended for welding. BS 970 has been superceded by PD 970 with many of the original standards now present in current standards of a different number (eg, BS EN 10277).
Mechanical values are given for the hot rolled (U) condition.
Refer to specific applicable standards for full specifications.
